The Texas Speed L83 Stage 1 camshaft is a great choice for the enthusiast looking for a jump in horsepower without sacrificing driveability. It will have great drivability and a mild lope at idle, while gaining 58hp over the factory camshaft in TSP's dyno testing. The Stage 1 works well with the stock torque converter and is ideal for making an upgrade while performing a DOD/AFM delete on a daily driver.
This updated V2 version of the TSP Stage 1 L83 camshaft makes more power than the previous design despite having less lift, making life easier on the valve springs and reducing valvetrain noise.
Each Gen 5 L83 camshaft Texas Speed offers will require the use of a phaser limiter kit. The phaser limiter restricts the range of cam timing movement, providing the necessary valve clearance for performance camshafts with added duration and tighter lobe separations.
NOTE: The L83 Stage 1 camshaft requires a DOD/AFM lifter delete, and a VVT Phaser limiter block is necessary to maintain proper piston to valve clearance.
Our kit options eliminate guesswork when choosing components for your installation:
Camshaft Only: Includes only the Texas Speed L83 Stage 1 Camshaft by itself (please remember a valve spring upgrade and a phaser limiter are necessary for installation).
Camshaft with Spring Kit: Includes L83 Stage 1 Camshaft, plus TSP LT1 Dual .660" Spring kit with Polished PAC springs, Titanium retainers, and Valve Seals with integrated Spring Seats (reuses your factory valve locks).
Pushrod Upgrade: Highly recommended when installing an aftermarket camshaft and springs. Our Gen V pushrod kit includes beefy 3/8" diameter, 7.850" long chromoly pushrods (brand may vary based on availability).
Phaser Limiter Option: Includes a 0* Phaser limiter block (required for the L83 Stage 1 camshaft). We have made this option for people who already have a tool from previous camshaft installations.
Phaser Limiter with Tool Kit Option: Includes 0* Phaser Limiter block, plus the necessary tool kit required to install the phaser limiter.
