Holden Alloytec LY7 Dyno Results – ORSSOM OTR & Custom Dyno Tune

Another Holden Alloytec LY7 has been put through the Revhigh dyno, and the results show just how much difference the right combination of airflow and calibration can make.

This LY7 came in fitted with an ORSSOM OTR (Over-The-Radiator) intake before receiving a custom dyno tune at Revhigh.

The Dyno Results

Before tuning, the LY7 produced:

140.0 wheel kW
307.0 wheel Nm

After the custom dyno tune:

160.5 wheel kW
381.5 wheel Nm

That’s an impressive improvement of:

+20.5 wheel kW

+74.5 wheel Nm

The power increase works out to approximately 27.5 wheel horsepower. Using the 1.25 drivetrain-loss conversion, that equates to approximately 34 engine horsepower.

For reference, the standard mechanical conversion of 1 kW ≈ 1.341 HP gives the same power gain at approximately 27.5 HP at the wheels.

What Was Done?

The setup consisted of:

ORSSOM OTR intake
Custom dyno tune

The ORSSOM OTR helps improve airflow into the engine, while the custom dyno tune allows the ECU calibration to be adjusted to suit the vehicle and its hardware.

Rather than relying on a generic tune, the vehicle was calibrated on the dyno with the results measured before and after the tuning process.

A Big Torque Increase

While the power gain is significant, the +74.5 Nm torque increase is where the difference will really be felt on the road.

The LY7 went from 307.0 Nm to 381.5 Nm at the wheels, giving the engine considerably more torque across the usable rev range.

More airflow combined with a sharper calibration can make a noticeable difference to the way an Alloytec V6 responds.

Waking Up the LY7

The Holden Alloytec LY7 responds well when the intake and ECU calibration are working together.

With the ORSSOM OTR providing improved airflow and a custom dyno tune optimising the engine's calibration, this LY7 picked up 20.5 wheel kW and 74.5 wheel Nm.

That's a solid improvement from two key upgrades.
