Holden Colorado 2.8L Turbo Diesel Carbon Cleaning & Walnut Blasting

Carbon buildup is a common issue on modern diesel engines, particularly vehicles that spend a lot of time driving around town or at lower engine speeds. Over time, deposits can build up in the intake system and around the intake valves, restricting airflow and affecting engine efficiency.

This Holden Colorado 2.8L Turbo Diesel came into Revhigh for a carbon clean and walnut blast to remove years of built-up deposits.

Just How Dirty Was It?

As you can see from the photos, the inside of the engine was seriously dirty. Heavy carbon deposits had accumulated in the intake system, reducing the available airflow into the engine.

This type of buildup doesn't happen overnight. It gradually develops as the engine is exposed to exhaust gases, oil vapour and normal diesel-engine operation.

Why Does Carbon Buildup Matter?

The intake system needs to provide the engine with sufficient clean airflow. When carbon deposits build up, they can reduce the effective size of the intake passages and interfere with airflow.

This can contribute to:

  • Reduced engine efficiency

  • Poorer throttle response

  • Loss of performance

  • Increased fuel consumption

  • Rougher engine operation

The severity depends on the condition of the individual vehicle and how much carbon has accumulated.

What Is a Walnut Blast?

Walnut blasting uses crushed walnut shell media to remove carbon deposits from components such as intake ports and valves.

The walnut shell is abrasive enough to break down carbon deposits while being suitable for cleaning delicate engine components when the procedure is performed correctly.

Rather than simply adding another fuel-system or intake-cleaning additive, walnut blasting physically removes the buildup from the affected areas.

The Result

After the carbon cleaning, the Colorado's intake system was restored to a much cleaner condition.

With the carbon deposits removed, the engine can breathe more effectively, helping restore proper airflow through the intake system.

A clean intake system can also help support better engine efficiency and fuel economy, while regular carbon cleaning and maintenance can contribute to longer engine life.

Keep Your Diesel Breathing Properly

Carbon buildup is something many diesel owners don't think about until performance or fuel economy starts to suffer.

If your Holden Colorado 2.8L Turbo Diesel has high kilometres, spends a lot of time doing short trips, or you're noticing changes in performance or fuel consumption, it may be worth having the intake system inspected.

At Revhigh Tuning Solutions, we can inspect your diesel and determine whether carbon cleaning is required.

Less carbon. Better airflow. A healthier engine. 🔧
