LLT V6 Back to Life – Timing Chain, OTR & Dyno Tune

Rod’s LLT V6 Commodore came in for what started as a straightforward timing chain replacement. These engines are known for stretching their chains over time — especially if oil changes aren’t spot-on — and once the timing starts to drift, so does performance and fuel efficiency.

But rather than just fix the issue and send it out the door, we decided to give the engine a proper refresh and performance boost. Along with the new timing chain kit, we fitted an Orssom OTR intake, new spark plugs, replaced the purge solenoid, fixed a leaking fuel cap, and sorted a few smaller issues that were affecting drivability.

Once everything was installed and running smoothly, we finished the job with a full custom dyno tune. The tune not only optimized the air-fuel ratios but also improved throttle response and midrange torque. The difference behind the wheel was instantly noticeable — the car now pulls harder, feels livelier, and sounds great through the OTR.

Here are the results from the dyno:
Dyno Results:
📉 Before: 154.6 kW / 340.8 Nm
📈 After: 185.0 kW / 398.0 Nm
That’s a solid +30 kW and nearly +60 Nm improvement — not bad for a naturally aspirated V6 with mostly bolt-on upgrades. It’s proof that the right combination of maintenance, quality parts, and tuning can completely transform a car’s personality.

Rod’s LLT is now back on the road, smoother, stronger, and ready to enjoy more trouble-free kilometers. ——
