Holden VF Evoke 3.0L V6 Retune & Dyno Tune – Power Restored

When Damon brought his Holden VF Evoke 3.0L V6 down from Ballarat to Revhigh Performance Tuning, the car had a few issues that needed more than just a simple tune adjustment.

The main complaint was that the car was making very little power with its current tune. There were also concerns with the 2nd-to-3rd gear shifts, along with raw fuel coming from the tailpipes, indicating that the engine’s fuel delivery and fuel trims needed attention.

Diagnosing the Problem

Before chasing additional power, we carried out a health check and looked at how the engine was operating on the existing calibration.

The poor performance, fuel issues and drivability problems pointed towards the tune needing to be properly corrected. Rather than simply increasing power targets, we focused on getting the fuel trims and overall calibration back where they needed to be.

Dyno Tuning Results

Once the issues were addressed and the vehicle was properly tuned, the results on the dyno showed a significant improvement.

Before:

  • 135.8 wheel kW

  • 342.2 wheel Nm

After:

  • 174.6 wheel kW

  • 378.0 wheel Nm

That's a gain of:

+38.8 wheel kW+35.8 wheel Nm

That's approximately 52 wheel HP of additional power, or around 65 HP at the engine using the standard 1.25 drivetrain-loss calculation.

More Than Just Peak Power

This VF Evoke wasn't simply brought in to chase a bigger dyno number. The goal was to correct the underlying tuning issues and improve the way the car runs.

With the fuel trims corrected and the calibration properly dialled in, the car was able to make substantially more power while addressing the drivability concerns that brought Damon to us in the first place.

The improvement from 135.8 kW to 174.6 kW at the wheels shows just how much can be left on the table when a vehicle isn't properly calibrated.

A proper dyno tune is about more than peak numbers — it's about power, fuelling, drivability and getting the vehicle operating the way it should.

Damon made the trip down from Ballarat to have his VF Evoke sorted, and the results speak for themselves.
